Santarem was founded in 1661 and it has always been a trading center due to its location at the meeting of the Tapajos and Amazon Rivers. We took a river boat tour for over three hours this afternoon to see the amazing “wedding of the waters”, the flora and fauna of the river banks, and to even get a chance to fish for Piranha!

We anchored for ½ an hour in Maica Lake, as our guides baited hook and line with red meat for the “voracious” Piranha.
